What is the NSL ?

The NSL is a team and city based league similar to other major league sports in the USA. The scoring format is unprecedented and enhances squash’s fast-paced and tactical qualities to constantly re-engage viewers.

The Season

The “regular season” will be contested in a group stage format consisting of two groups of three teams in a North and South division. The winner of each group will play to be crowned the first NSL champion in one final match!

NSL Match Format

Each match consists of a 3 v 3 team match played over 3 periods of timed squash, the first two periods being 20 minutes in duration and the third and final period being 30 minutes. The play during the periods is PAR and the first two periods are worth one point each, whereas the 3rd is worth two.

In the event of a tie, one five minute overtime period is played.

NSL Scoring Rules

  • Each team will utilize 3 players competing over 3 periods of squash
  • the leading team by score after each period will win that leg of the match.
  • Teams can sub their players on and off and use power plays to bring themselves to victory!

 Running Clock

  • Two 20 minute periods and third and final 30 minute period
  • The first two legs are worth 1 point each, the final leg is worth 2 points
  • If tied after 3 legs, there is a 5 minute overtime with no subs allowed
  • 2 timeouts per period for subs, additional third timeout in the third period

 Power Plays

  • Each team has a 2 minute power play each period, and a second 1 minute power play in the third period
  • Only the team on power play can score points, the defending team can win rallies and serve but not score points until the duration is up
  • No concurrent power plays
  • No power plays with 4 minutes or less on the clock.
